I’m in an area where H1N1 cases have been spotted, and I currently have typical flu like symptoms. I have a sore throat, bad coughing, 100 degree fever, headache and nasal congestion. Nothing severe like vomiting or diarrhea, and no body pains. My symptoms seem to be on the rise as well. Is there any way to distinguish between seasonal flu and h1n1?
You think you care, but you don’t really. Both flavors of the flu suck. Both give you headache, bodyaches, cough, nasal symptoms, make you feel like you’ve been run over. Swine flu tends to give vomiting and diarrhea more often than regular flu, but it’s not enough of a difference to be a differentiating feature.
Flu tests (nasal swab) at your doctor’s can tell you what kind of flu you have. It might be flu A, flu B, swine flu, or one of many flu-like viruses. But again, you don’t care. They will all make you feel crappy for 1-2weeks. The people that care are public health people who are trying to track these diseases. If you are not one of them, just tell your body to stop caring which flavor you have and just rest, drink, and take whatever over-the-counter stuff keeps you less miserable, and whine a little to your family. Stay home a few days to keep from sharing. First 4 days are the most contagious, but WASH YOUR HANDS A LOT through the whole illness.
My sympathy is with you. Flu sucks.
Most people have respiratory symptoms and a fever more than other symptoms.
