I just started feeling under the weather for the last day or so and I am paranoid to catch the H1N1 virus. My symptoms are sneezing, runny nose, headach and itchy throat. My daughter has been sick with cold-like symptoms for the past 3 days so I think I caught it from her. If it was H1N1 would my symptoms be severe right away?
Here is a sampling of the symptoms, and some advice on what to do regardless if you have the swine flu or not.
H1N1 Flu Symptoms
Fever is usually present with the flu in up to 80% of all flu cases. A temperature of 100°F or higher for 3 to 4 days is associated with the flu.
Coughing
A non-productive (non-mucus producing) cough is usually present with the flu (sometimes referred to as dry cough).
Aches
Severe aches and pains are common with the flu.
Stuffy Nose
Stuffy nose is not commonly present with the flu.
Chills
60% of people who have the flu experience chills.
Tiredness
Tiredness is moderate to severe with the flu.
Sneezing
Sneezing is not common with the flu.
Sudden Symptoms.
The flu has a rapid onset within 3-6 hours. The flu hits hard and includes sudden symptoms like high fever, aches and pains.
Headache
A headache is very common with the flu, present in 80% of flu cases.
Sore Throat
Sore throat is not commonly present with the flu.
Chest Discomfort
Chest discomfort is often severe with the flu.
The only way to stop the spread of the epidemic is to spread the awareness.
You can prevent swine flu by strengthening your immune system.
To strengthen your immune system, you need to first avoid the things that weaken it such as junk foods; toxins, stress, drugs, and sugar are some examples. These thing also causes you body to be acidic, prime ground for sickness to thrive.

Since you daughter has had the cold longer it’s better to keep an eye on her. Depending upon her age she maybe at a higher risk of complications than you are when it comes to H1N1 or the common flu.
If your daughter is old enough to talk, every once in a while ask her how she is breathing. And keep an eye on her temp. If she’s school age ask her school if they prefer you to keep her home. Even if she has just a normal cold or flu keep in mind her immune system is compromised.
What are the emergency warning signs?
In children
* Fast breathing or trouble breathing
* Bluish skin color
* Not drinking enough fluids
* Not waking up or not interacting
* Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
* Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough
* Fever with a rash
In adults
* Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
* Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
* Sudden dizziness
* Confusion
* Severe or persistent vomiting

Hope the info can set you mind at ease.
You have a cold.. not the flu. With the flu you would have a fever. Sneezing is very uncommon with the flu and so is runny nose. If your throat is sore then that’s a sign of a cold. Headache is probably due to congestion. If you had the flu your symptoms would have been quick onset. A cold progresses over a few days.
Hope you feel better!
