What you need to know about Infertility Treatment

Infertility is a very personal problem which affects couples in all the areas of their lives. Good fertility clinics address each couple’s unique emotional, medical and financial requirements. A fertility doctor will aim at providing you with the best infertility and gynecological care. Most good clinics assure that the patients will receive personalized and compassionate care along with helping you to realize your dream of expanding your family. However, there are a few things you need to ascertain before you decide on the fertility clinic you want to hire for yourself.

The physicians employed by these fertility clinics should be specialists in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Apart from a fertility doctor, the support staff should include embryologists, andrologists, nurses, financial coordinators and other healthcare professionals. An infertility clinic should not only be able to address your primary issue, but also be able to guide you through the emotional and financial aspects of fertility therapy. They should be able to provide you with a level of trust and confidence which will minimize the stress and anxiety normally associated with infertility treatment.

Good fertility clinics provide a variety of infertility treatments to suit different patients. These treatments include In-Vitro Fertilization – Embryo Transfer, Intracystoplasmic sperm injection, Assisted hatching, tubal transfer etc. They also make provisions for egg donation (surrogacy). They also have the technology necessary for gender selection. What’s more, these treatments are provided at an affordable cost.

These clinics also provide basic education to the couples opting for infertility treatments. This education is in the form of articles published on their web sites. Before you decide on a fertility doctor you should ascertain all these things so that you can undergo the infertility treatment without any hassles. At the same time, you should be given complete knowledge about the treatment you are being subjected to along with its pros and cons. Your expectation levels should be set right. You should not have excessive expectations so that you do not get frustrated if they are not met. The infertility clinic should go out of its way to make the treatment comfortable and hassle free for you.

The truth about D&Cs

This clip explains the risks of D&Cs which are used routinely in gynecology despite the potential dangers and the existence of safer and more effective alternatives. Please note: This clip is neither pro nor anti-abortion. It is anti-D&C REGARDLESS of the reason for which it is used because it can cause infertility and severe complications needlessly. Alternatives including drugs and hysteroscopy exist to replace any of the (unfortunately) numerous and common uses of D&C.

More Facts and Falacies About Homosexuality

Do homosexuals marry? Are they guilty of child abuse? Think you know the right answers to these questions? Read this article and find out. You might be surprised as we uncover more facts and fallacies about homosexuality.

Homosexuals don’t marry. False. Of course, they do! Many marry for convenience – to hide the fact that they are homosexuals. Others do so hoping they will eventually become real men. The latter usually doesn’t work and will only bring much frustration to the troubled homosexual. Marriage should never be looked upon as a cure for homosexuality where psychological counseling is badly needed.

“Many homosexuals are married, often for the sake of appearance. Lawyers, doctors, men and women in business, and others in positions of ‘respectability’ in society may be homosexual, yet may marry and have children, maintaining happy family lives and engaging in homosexual activity on the side. It is, of course, impossible to determine the exact frequency of marriage involving homosexuals,” according to Dr. Niels Lauersen, a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Steven Whitney in “It’s Your Body (A Woman’s Guide to Gynecology).”

Homosexuals abuse children. False. Homosexuals are no guiltier of child abuse than other individuals. Their capacity and ability to hurt children is the same as everyone else’s.

It is, however, unfortunate that they are often blamed for corrupting children and many innocent homosexuals have been ostracized because of this. It’s as if homosexuals are by nature bad while the rest of humanity is good. Nothing can be far from the truth. This was revealed by Dr. Virginia E. Pomeranz of the Cornell University Medical College and New York Hospital and Dodi Schultz in “The Mothers’ and Fathers’ Medical Encyclopedia.”

“It is extremely unfortunate that individuals who associate with children, youth leaders and teachers in particular, have been singled out for harassment because they are homosexuals. A homosexual in such a position is no more likely than a heterosexual to assault his or her young charges.”

Homosexuals like being homosexuals. Maybe. That’s true for those who have accepted their homosexuality and have learned to live with it. But there are those who see homosexuality as a curse and want to change. There may be hope for these individuals in the form of psychiatric counseling and treatment.

“Male and female homosexuals who have not ‘come out’ and declared to the world at large that they are homosexual often suffer stress and anxiety from living double lives. Should the activities become known or even suspected, they may lose their jobs. They may also be rejected by family and ‘straight’ friends. If they are not able to find companionship and support in a homosexual community or with homosexual friends, they are liable to feel lonely and depressed. Men more often than women may face imprisonment, blackmail or physical abuse,” said Paul M. Insel and Walton T. Roth in “Core Concepts in Health.”

“If you are an openly homosexual teenager, you may face rejection by some of your peers, teachers and family. If you are having difficulty adjusting to your sexual preference, or to others’ reactions to it, psychotherapy may prove helpful,” added Dr. David E. Larson, editor-in-chief of the “Mayo Clinic Family Health Book.” (Next: Is AIDS a homosexual disease?)

All About Hysterectomy

The Debate Boiling around Hysterectomy

The most commonly done gynecological surgical procedure is hysterectomy. The process involves either the complete or the partial removal of the uterus. It is quite ironic in its own way because it deprives the woman any further chance of ever conceiving—a role most women consider as their part on this earth. Due to the fact that it is a commonly performed gynecological surgery procedure, a debate has grown around it stating that hysterectomy is done for rather unwarranted and unnecessary reasons.

Reasons Hysterectomy Is Performed

To help settle the matter, medical personnel have explicitly laid out that the reasons hysterectomy is done is only for the following:

* Hysterectomy is a must-do procedure when there is a threat from cancers and tumors affecting any part of the uterus or in adjacent areas that may also affect the uterus in time.

* In some instances, hysterectomy is done as a prophylactic treatment for those who have a strong family history of cancers affecting the reproductive system, especially breast cancer. Sometimes, hysterectomy is done as part of the recovery process from such cancers.

* As a sort of last-ditch effort to curtail endometriosis and adenomyosis, especially when the growth affects the uterine wall or if the growth passes right through the uterine wall. The procedure is done only after all clinical and pharmaceutical efforts have been exhausted.

* Hysterectomy is also done to correct a severe case of placenta that has formed inside the birth canal or when the placenta attaches to other organs, especially when there is excessive bleeding observed.

* The procedure is also done when there is a severe developmental disability due to a malignant growth in the uterus or other similar problems.

* Although rather rare, hysterectomy is also done on transmen who have decided they don’t want to have any part in childbearing and want their uterus taken out.

Advantages of Hysterectomy

The obvious benefit of undergoing hysterectomy is that the procedure can rectify any possible problem that reproductive system cancers may bring. This is especially true if the procedure is done to preempt the possible onset of breast cancer among women who have a strong history of family members having cancer before.

The Risks Associated with Hysterectomy

Hysterectomy is known to contribute to the early onset of menstruation. For women who underwent the process, menstruation comes in more or less 3 years earlier than the common age for the period to come. The situation is attributed to the disruption in the blood supply to the ovaries after hysterectomy. Moreover, women who have undergone hysterectomy are at risk for developing osteoporosis and bone fractures due the modulatory effect of the estrogen on calcium metabolism and the drop in serum estrogen levels can cause to excessive calcium loss and bone wasting.

Alternatives to Hysterectomy

Though hysterectomy is frequently done, there are alternatives to it. One of these alternatives is endometrial ablation wherein the growth on the lining of the uterus is destroyed with heat. Other procedures employ radio frequency and ultrasound surgery to kill any harmful growth in the uterus.
