what are some symptoms and treatment? thanks in advance!
So, I had flu like symptoms and went to the Health Services facility at my university. The doctor did not run any tests he just checked my symptoms and told me I have swine flu (though symptoms of Seasonal flu are the same as Swine Flu). He said that because I got it now (in mid October) that it was Swine Flu (H1N1) and not the regular Flu Type A. I don’t exactly understand why it is DEFINITELY swine flu and most certainly NOT the normal flu. Symptoms seem to be a little harsher than when I’ve previously had the flu but that’s the only difference to me. Was it wrong of the doctor to make this assumption without testing me first? I’ve been kicked out of class for a week because of it.
My daughter has been sick for the past week with an on and off fever. her symptoms are:
-sore joints
-sore muscles
-deep cough
-very tired
-sore throat
-runny nose
which one is it? I’ve heard there is no difference, but then why do people say you’ve got H1N1 OR the seasonal flu?
I know this person at work who claims to have been sick with H1N1. I asked if they had been tested for it because from what I understand that is the only way to tell the difference between the strains. This person said no that they were not tested. The NP only presumed that I have H1N1. Not that it matters since treatment and symptoms are identical anyway. But is it really possible to tell the difference without being tested? I don’t think it is.
Is it safe to say that the H1N1 is being mistaken for the seasonal flu? Since the H1N1 is so hyped right now any flu symptoms that you have is just going to be called the H1N1? It’s scary that people are dieing from it but people die from the seasonal flu every year too and do we make a fuss about that? Am I missing some important points here? It seems more people are scared of it now then when it started in the Spring. I can’t even get my daughter the H1N1 vaccine because they are postponing them until the first week of December.
I’m 37 and healthy. I’ve had the regular flu shot and want the swine flu shot when it’s available. But I think I heard somewhere that if you’ve only had one seasonal flu shot, you should wait a couple of months before you get the swine flu shot, just to make sure you don’t have any symptoms or complications from flu vaccination in general. Medical professionals, is this accurate? And if it is, how long should I wait? Many thanks.
In almost everything thing I read it appears that the symptoms for H1N1 & the “normal” seasonal flu are the same. So when a person is sick with flu like symptoms, how do the doctors figure out what is H1N1 & what is seasonal?
Also the treatment seems to be the same for both as well. So why is everyone freaking out over H1N1? Just wondering because both of the flus seem to be so similar, but no one freaks out over the regular seasonal flu.
As in if I get the H1N1 vaccine will I also need the regular flu vaccine to prevent against the seasonal flu.
Thanks!
What makes the H1N1 virus different than the “common seasonal flu?”
Could someone please give me a short summary of this. thanks!
